“Around 100 people waving union and political flags filled up the footpath outside a central Wellington McDonald's restaurant as part of an international fast food workers day of action.

Wednesday lunchtime protesters in the capital, as well as in Auckland and Palmerston North, were demanding an end to zero-hour contracts, under which workers have no guarantee how many hours they will get each week.”

While the Dominion Post and other media are describing concerns about zero-hour contracts, the good news they carried in the hard copy edition this morning does not get a look in!

Boss takes cut and doubles staff’s pay

Dan Price, the founder and chief executive of Gravity Payments, a credit card payment processing company in USA, has taken to heart some recent research that found that people’s happiness increases with more income up to $75,000 a year, but not much after that.

Consequently, he has increased all his workers incomes to at least $70,000 and cut his $1 million dollar income to the same level! The plan is to bring the changes in over the next three years.

Now there’s a revolution if ever I heard of one. Would that others followed suit, even to a limited extent!
